Polarity Therapy...

What is Polarity Therapy?

Polarity Therapy works with the subtle energy of the body to create, sustain and enhance a sense of health and well-being. Based on an awareness of energy moving between poles – hence the name Polarity – the therapist works to stimulate, balance and harmonise the energies in a caring and sympathetic way.

What happens during Polarity treatment?

Polarity therapy uses four different approaches to balancing the life energy: bodywork, nutrition, exercise and counselling. A typical session will consist of a bodywork treatment, which might be combined with work in another of the three areas.

The bodywork consists of gentle hand-on contact, often with rocking movements of the hands or fingers. This contact may involve many parts of the body or may concentrate on only a few. The experience of a bodywork treatment can be deeply relaxing. It can also lead to emotional releases, characterised by laughter or tears.

Polarity Therapists often recommend dietary changes which can have a purifying and energising effect. These will be designed specifically to support the balancing done during the bodywork sessions.

Exercises, sometimes called Polarity Yoga, may be recommended for use between treatment sessions, and involve gentle stretching and rocking movements. These are also designed to support the bodywork.

The Polarity session may also involve counselling. Through greater awareness of our thoughts and emotions we can redirect our lives in more positive directions.

When should Polarity Therapy be used?

Because it is a holistic therapy, Polarity therapy can be used for a very wide range of conditions. In a way it does not make sense to list illnesses because the aim is to restore health and well-being rather than remove the symptoms of a particular illness.

To give some kind of a guide however, Polarity therapy has been used successfully with back and shoulder pain, migraine, digestive problems, lack of energy, and all disorders involving tension and stress states.
