Stress Management Training...

Stress Stress is a real, human condition that will probably affect each and every one of us in some way, at some time in our lives. The effects of stress range from tight-shoulder to tension headaches, from angina to heart attacks. They include:
- Physical and emotional tension
- Anxiety, Hysteria, Uncontrolled Anger
- Difficulties sleeping/insomnia
- Headaches and nausea
- Weight gain, indigestion or loss of appetite
- Loss of energy or lethargy
- Loss of libido
- Excess energy from overactive adrenal glands

The causes of stress can be anything in our lives that stimulates any degree of "uncertainty" or change - from getting married to having children, from losing a job to winning a promotion that demands even higher performance levels with greater levels of responsibility. The stress may also come from changes within the body itself - therefore managing stress effectively means looking at the mind and body as a whole.

Stress can lead to feeling generally "out of it" as a stressed mind places stress on the body - neuro-biological processes are fired up that filter down throughout our physiology. Unmanaged stress can result in dependancy on alcohol or other substances, mental and physical breakdowns. Due to the excess adrenaline created by the body in response to "stress" itself - the cycles of mental and physical stress can continue to self-perpetuate until the patterns are broken and balance is restored.

Stress Management professionals are engaged in the practice of assisting others (be they individuals, groups or organisations) to identify and then manage the pressures they face.

Whatever the context of stress management, a broad toolkit of approaches is required, based on a clear assessment of the current situation.
